Chris Schulmeister was sworn in as Allen’s new mayor on May 26, following his decisive victory in the recent election. With a background that includes serving on the Allen City Council from 2019 to 2025, including two years as mayor pro tem, Schulmeister brings experience and a clear vision for the city’s future.
During his campaign, Schulmeister emphasized priorities such as enhancing quality of life, maintaining affordability, revitalizing downtown Allen, and improving aging infrastructure. He acknowledges the city’s transition from rapid growth to a more mature phase, stating, “We have transitioned from decades of rapid growth to a mature city. City leadership recognizes it as do the residents of Allen.”
One of the key initiatives under Schulmeister’s leadership is the Downtown Catalyst Project, a $17 million mixed-use development aimed at revitalizing downtown Allen. Approved by the City Council in March, the project will feature 18,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space, a public pocket park, a stage, and temporary parking. This development is expected to attract new businesses and provide residents with enhanced amenities.
In addition to downtown revitalization, the city is investing over $7 million in infrastructure projects focused on aging neighborhoods. These improvements include sidewalk, utility, and street upgrades in areas like the Green Gate and Oak Hill neighborhoods, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining and enhancing the city’s existing communities.
Schulmeister’s administration is also addressing community concerns, such as the impact of pickleball courts on nearby residents. The City Council is considering implementing specific noise ordinances and establishing minimum distance requirements between pickleball courts and residential areas to mitigate noise issues.
As Allen continues to evolve, Mayor Schulmeister’s leadership aims to balance growth with the preservation of the city’s character, ensuring that Allen remains a vibrant and welcoming community for all residents.
